TODAY’S PSA : LIFE ISN’T FAIR! ⠀⠀ I’m at that age where my mind still thinks I’m 27. But, my body keeps asking, if I’m sure I’m not dead yet! I've undergone reconstructive knee surgery, and recently, spinal fusion surgery. And, a couple of others, that I won't mention. I don't wish to bore you. But, on most days, my body, makes sure to remind me, of them. I used electric heating pads, and, the packaged strip pads, for many years. Then, last year, I started making my own natural ones. The electric ones, always made me feel, like the electricity was penetrating through my body. It could just be me. So I switched to the strips, that you just take out of the pack, and velcro, or tape on. However, with those, after a few hours of wearing them, I always felt nauseous. So I decided, I had to go a more natural route. When I was younger, I used to hear older people saying, they could gauge weather changes, by their joint pain. I wasn't sure that was true. It was. It is. It's been rainy, stormy, and cold, where I live, all week, and my body, let me know, a couple of days, before it blew in, in gale force.
⠀⠀ If you all, could’ve been a fly on the wall at my house, around 3 a.m... I was barely making it to the microwave, (out of a sleepless-night-filled-with-pain) to heat up my homemade heating pad.⠀You, would have, surely said “it won’t be long now, before they ship her off, to the glue factory!” ⠀⠀ (f you don’t get that reference, you’re probably, very young. (Read: able-bodied and haven't been chopped up by a surgeon, yet) ⠀⠀ But, if you too, are almost glue-factory ready.. here’s the recipe for that long lasting homemade heating pad, using only 3 ingredients, I mentioned in the title. And, it stays hot for a very long time! Ingredients: 🧦 2 old socks 🍚 1.5 cups of uncooked rice 🏺 2 drops of your favorite essential oils ⠀⠀ Directions: Add rice and essential oil to one sock 🧦. Tie it tightly, then, put it inside of the 2nd sock, and tie it. ⠀⠀ Microwave for 1 min 30 seconds to 2 minutes, tops. Be careful it will be hot. Thassit! It stays hot for 4-5 hours. Once, it cools down, just reheat it. The process can be repeated indefinitely, with the same rice. I've been using the one I made initially, for 8 months. Eventually, I will start over with a fresh batch of rice, but for now, it's still working, just fine.⠀⠀
